Upon the passing of a retired member of the Los Angeles Police or Fire Department the following actions and notifications should be made:

Please note: Many organizations require original copies of Death Certificates. We recommend ordering at least 10 copies.

Be prepared to give the following information:

To report the passing of a pensioner:

  • Deceased members full name and serial number (serial number is for police only)
  • Reporting person name and relationship
  • Date, place and cause of deat
  • Date of appointment to Department, if known
  • Date and place of birth
  • Rank at retirement and last assignment, if known
  • Type of pension, i.e., Service or Disability

Funeral Service information:

  • Notify the Relief Association of funeral information
  • Date, time and location of service, if known
  • Survivors request regarding flowers or charitable donation, if known
  • Survivors request regarding a Departmental Chaplain, if desired
  • If a cemetery plot is needed contact the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association
  • Notify any Fraternal Organizations if their participation is desired

Police And Fire

  • The Los Angeles Retired Fire and Police Association will place a commemorative brick/paver at the respective museum
